A BREAK TO CREATE (first of 3 posts)

It was our turn this summer. We seem to take turns creating art in my studio and their glorious city! Paris!  It can't get much more glorious than that! Our friends were back in US to see family and many friendsI Their visit at our home was unique. It was the only creating art stop! YAY!!!! I emailed Martha - we did the Paris trip together.

"Martha!  Our friends from Paris are coming! 

Can you come?!"    "YES!! "

PUSHING AROUND RED

Yet another series of red circles inspired by the ancient dye vats in Fez? 

Could be.  

Titles are fun. 
I'm already thinking:
Sunset Over Fez 
or Reflecting Reds 
or Moroccan Sunset 
or Pools of Sunset? 

For now I'm simply pushing red squares and circles around on Rives bfk.

ANCIENT DYE VATS FRAMED IN CHERRY

Finally had the 2nd series of the Moroccan Dye Vats framed in cherry. Here they are in my studio. Original series on left.

RE-SCANNING THE PAGES

Everything takes longer than I think it will, like scanning the 12 pages of the little artist's book. Issues! 

I re-scanned the all the pages today.  It was worth the effort.  The raw images will be much better to work with in photoshop. 

The B/W copy is on the workwall hanging on the vertical and the color original is on the table top.

Here are the first 2 pages (still raw scans) on which the little artist would like the captions in the finished Blurb book to read: A Sun and A Sun.

KITTYKEE AND THE SUN

Working on the 2nd book by the little artist, titled Kittykee and the Sun. This morning I put the text into a Word document. 

Photocopies of pages were made, cut and assembled into a rough b&w dummy.

The dummy will be good to have for referral, after the original goes back to our grand-daughter this week. 

WORKING ON THIS AND THAT

I worked on a couple of things in the studio today. One is this night-time street scene in a journal of collages inspired by my trip with Martha to Paris last September.   My friends know I do not draw - BUT I started drawing in the creative process of collaging. I'm about midway through filling in the journal now.  I owe you a look at the earlier pages.  It will happen.

DESIGNING HER SECOND BOOK

3 1/2 and she's designed her second book!  It's an accordion book made with cut painted papers, rubber stamped images and glue sticks. 

Very colorful suns, houses and Kittykees flow across the pages.

Yesterday I scanned all the pages. Below is one of the raw double page scans. 

From accordion book to publishing by Blurb  takes time.  We have just begun the process.

BACK TO MAKING ART

I've been making art with children in the last couple weeks. Stay tuned.

DOAULA, CAMEROON Last Breakfast On May Trip

Our art-teaching trip to Cameroon is over. Back to Douala, along the coast, for one overnight and then our last breakfast together. (Scroll down for the story) (top 2 pics)

Marcia and Charise took a morning flight to Ethiopia where they continued to use story ropes and cross collages. (bottom photo)

The rest of us took a late night flight to Paris and on to the US.
