HIGH TIDE OVER BOARDWALK

As I looked through the scraps with the idea of sea, sky and sand, I found a little scrap of striped fabric. Ahhh-a piece of boardwalk, I thought.

Look at this photo, recently shot by photographer, Karen Amendola. It's the little piece of art come to life! High tide splashing over the boardwalk - Brewster, Cape Cod Bay, Massachusetts.

Thanks, Karen, for letting me use your spectacular picture!

CAPE COD SUNSET

Fabric scraps & painted papers. As is or just a cut or two or three. More inspired by the paper & fabric scraps than design direction.

Next collages will be pretty spontaneous. Maybe I'll be leaving the Outermost House on the beach.

BETWIX & BETWEEN

I'm between projects. Pulled out the Kolo journal I started last fall at Cape Cod. 9 pages of collages inspired by the Outermost House.

Now's a great time to design more collages inspired by that famous house.

INFLUENCING THE PROCESS

I was wondering today why I've been making the Outermost House so small, tiny even, in these collages? I realized it's the influence of the Sketchbook Project 2011 process & the tiny ark on the final page. (photo)

The mood & sense of the piece changes quite a bit when the house is minimized in the composition. Interesting. I'm bent toward playing that out in these collages. The process is pulling me in that direction. Worked on these today.

RED SKY

"Red sky at night, sailors delight; red sky at morning, sailors warning.”

Worked on Outermost House collages 4, 5 & 6. 1965 photo, "Low Tide," by Debora Rosen of the 1925 beach cottage in which naturalist Henry Beston lived for 1yr. Later he wrote the classic, The Outermost House.

LET-IT-GO IMPERFECT

My collages are brief, rough, slight, playful & let-it-go imperfect! I'm just plain having fun.

CAPE ARCHITECTURE

Inspiration for the week: The Outermost House - Henry Beston's home in 1926 where he spend a year on a Cape Cod beach. Collages inspired by photos of his house before it was swept out to sea during a massive winter storm in 1978. Working in an orange Kolo journal.
