PAPER PLATE PALETTES

Painted more papers for the label project. I use paper plates for mixing colors...often coming up with great serendipitous results. The colorful centers will be used in the collages as well.

COLOR IN MY CLOSET

My studio was a mess after working on a project. This morning I took some time to clear off the tables, put materials away & generally reorganize. I can't think in the middle of a mess!

Put fabrics back in the IKEA storage unit. Thought you might like to see how I have it organized. I used to be a quilter. Not sure that is what I am anymore - though I don't think I will ever lose that label !!

WE ALL WEAR LABELS

That's my friend Jens below. Yesterday we talked about the collage project I'm doing on shipping tags. I'll be team teaching - my half of the equation will be facilitating abstract collaging of concepts. Jen's saw the tags as the invisable labels we all wear - inside, outside, good, bad etc. I appreciated that observtion. It helped focus my experimenting today.

JENS MEET CHRIS

Jens, friend & performance artist from Berlin, came for a few days. To Chris Durante's framing studio in Danbury, we delivered some pieces for framing. As Chris and Jens talked, I wandered back to see what master craftsman, David, was working on. Oh wow my frames! 3 in maple and 1 in cherry-for 4 giclees prints of Fes Dye Vats.

FRAMING THE CIRCLES

DyeVat quilts going to Chris, the framer, today. He'll be floating them in white washed frames-going for the minimal look. UV plexi this time-easier for transporting to west coast. Reminder - so I don't forget to tell him.

Check out Adventure Morocco! (noted on right). Marcia is going to Fes this wknd. I'm expecting photos of the dye vats that inspired these 3. Looking forward to her impressions. She writes a very engaging blog. Do take a read!

PAINTING ISSUES

Began to paint papers for the workshops ahead.
Different issues will be discussed in the groups. I'll be helping them process the concepts through collage.

Today I was painting papers for collaging themes of brokeness, unresolved issues, walled up & other heavy stuff. Messy and dark seemed to say it.

ART FRIENDS

Our art group had a great 10 year run & then as it happens with things, the season for the group tapered off. Wonderful friendships were developed and continue on. Our friend, Marguerite, is back home in South Africa now. Here she is at Cherry Grove Farm after a morning of working on a pastel.
Collage with cut up photos, fabric & painted papers.

2 GOATS

These goats at Cherry Groove Farm were just plain funny. Not too much to add to 2 trimmed down photos-simply 2 strips of fabrics. Those ears say it all! I titled it....

CREATION CREATING @ THE FARM

This one inspired by a photo I took at the farm-the day we artists were creating. The photo reminded me of the Sistine classic. Played around with the idea. Made photocopy on acetate; stitched 2 handpainted fabrics together; then stitched to the acetate.

God Giving Life to Adam
Michelangelo gets the credit!

PAINTERS @ THE FARM

We had an art group that met every fall at a local farm. Each did their own thing - oils, pastels, photogaphy, collage & created outside, inspired at every turn

1yr we met a month post
9-11. A beautiful sunny day - flags all over the farm, the pickups, the cars, maiboxes!

Making it even more special were the house painters also painting - their canvas - the old farm house.

HAITI IN MY KITCHEN

Sometimes it takes me a while to frame a piece - this one 1 1/2 yrs! Finally had Bryn Gillette's photo of a Haitian teenager framed. I hung it in my kitchen this past weekend.

It was a thank you gift for hosting the launch of Bryn's new website & exhibit of his Haiti inspired artwork March '99, well before the recent earthquake. W/art sales he supports an orphan ministry in Haiti.

Exhibit & launch party March '99.
