MATTE VARNISH & STITCHING WIND

Sketchbook Project
a record year of rain fall

Noticing some acrylic pages are sticking together-lifting paint off. Will touch up. Experimenting. Thin coat of matte varnish might seal the paint.

2 pg spread-machine stitched 'wind' & waves of pastels into wet acrylics.

NOAH & CREATIVE PROCESS

Sketchbook Project 2011
a record year of rainfall.

Designed NOAH quilt in 1994. Enjoyed creating sky, rain, wind & water. Some of the creative process for Sketchbook pgs comes out of designing NOAH.

MY SPACE

People are always curious about artist's studios. Here's mine & I love it. Table tops are spread with Sketchbook Project 2011. Furniture is mostly IKEA. High work table & ledges by my husband, Nelson, patron of the arts! Studio loft 1/2 wall overlooks great room, w/artist friend, Kathy Maghini's, collages from workshop posted 8/17.

RAINING WORDS

Sketchbook Project 2011
a record year of rainfall

Finally a sense of direction. Now I'm enjoying the process.

Though still going with 40 days & 40 nights of the Genesis Flood, I decided not to add the ark into the pictures. I can't explain why except to say the creative spirit is not leading that way. So I let it go & feel right about that.

Going with rising water and descriptive words. Will write something about the Flood at the beginning or the end.

GLUEING PAGES

Sketchbook Project 2011 begins. 44 pages way too much to fill. Glueing some together-tearing some out. Down to a manageable 12.

My theme: a record year of rainfall.

Going w/raining 40 days & 40 nights imagery. Worked with this theme few yrs back. Ideas are perking. Keep you posted.

DIDN'T GET MUCH DONE!

On Skype with our art buddy, Pat Butler for 3 1/2 hours today! She saw us but we didn't see her. Pat just got back from Italy - so lots of stories & catching up. All to say... we didn't get much collaging done on day 3!

Last summer we 3 had a great creative week.

you, Pat!

COLLAGING DAY 2

"Martha, you're getting it!" Designing with squares: selecting, cutting, arranging, & pasting glossy pics into pleasing composition.

Martha's sister Kathy came to create for a day & took up yesterday's design challenge creating a collage inspired by Rockport, MA photo.

SCRAPpY MOTIF no. 1

Why does this fishing shed in Rockport, MA inspire so many artists-including me? It has the distinction of being the most
painted building in America.

AT MY DESK

Getting postcards cards ready to send off to Africa. Our friends will enjoy seeing the quilts I made with African fabrics.

Sketchbook came yesterday. A Moleskin Cahier Kraft Brown Cover - bottom left in photo. Smaller than expected but plenty of pages for creativity. As promised there's the bar code on the back with my name and chosen theme: A Record Year of Rainfall. What's this about? Click below.
